Dyslexia is something many people have heard of but not many people can explain. Often, people refer to dyslexia as making mistakes in literacy-based tasks, typically writing or reading words and letters backwards. However, the British Psychological Society (2005) defines it as:

“…when accurate and fluent word reading and/or spelling develops very incompletely or with great difficulty…”

For parents or carers who wish to enhance their understanding of dyslexia, we have created a free leaflet filled with information about what dyslexia is, who it can affect, symptoms and how we at The School Psychology Service can support your child. You can find the leaflet, alongside many other free resources, here.

You can also find a wealth of information about dyslexia in this YouTube video. Stay tuned, Dyslexia is this month’s focus and we will posting blog posts with ore in-depth information on the definitions, symptoms and ways we can support.
