We’re excited to share our new leaflet designed to help parents and carers understand dyscalculia- a specific learning difference that affects how individuals process numbers and mathematical concepts. Dyscalculia can impact anyone, regardless of age or ability, and may show up as difficulty with basic number concepts, recalling number facts, understanding place value, or solving everyday maths problems.
Children with dyscalculia often have many strengths, including creativity, problem-solving in non-mathematical contexts, and high levels of curiosity and innovation. Our leaflet outlines both strengths and difficulties and highlights how we as a service can support your child and your school. We can work with your child to carry out an assessment to identify a diagnosis of dyscalculia. We also work closely with schools to give advice, training, and practical strategies for supporting pupils with dyscalculia and other specific learning differences. With the right support, strategies, and structured, multi-sensory interventions, children can make excellent progress.
